Hey everyone! My name is Tyler Whitacre, and I’m excited to be your Head Coach for the 2026 season! I started my NVSL journey with Sully Station in their developmental program when I was just 5 years old. Ever since that first summer, I fell in love with the water and went on to finish my NVSL swimming career there. Along with being a swimmer at Sully, I also spent three summers as an assistant coach and served as the Head Coach of the winter program for two years.
In addition to summer swim, I competed for Machine Aquatics and Westfield High School, where I became a four-time team record holder at both. While at Westfield, I was also a three-time state runner-up in the 500 freestyle and was named to the All-State team all four years.
I now swim for the University of South Carolina, where I’ve competed at SECs the past two seasons. I’m currently wrapping up my sophomore year, studying Public Health. On top of studying and swimming, I also help coach the local club team throughout the year, Gamecock Aquatics.
This summer, my biggest goal is to create a fun, positive environment that helps every swimmer develop a love for the sport just like I did. I bring a lot of energy to every practice and meet, and I want it to be a place where swimmers feel excited to show up and support each other.
At the same time, I put a big emphasis on technique and really focusing on the details that make a difference in the water. I also make it a priority to explain the why behind what we’re doing—whether it’s a drill, a set, or a specific focus, so swimmers aren’t just going through the motions, but actually understand how to improve and carry those skills into races.

She has served as a Junior Coach since age 13, and she enjoys helping swimmers improve their stroke technique, turns, and dives. She also loves giving lessons to kids on and off the team. Hayley swam for Machine Aquatics for five years and was on the Langley High School Varsity Swim & Dive team for four, serving as Captain in her senior year. At Langley, she also was a Captain on the Varsity Lacrosse team.

Colin Flickenger
Colin has been a member of the Hamlet Swim Club since 2011 and has been a coach on the team in some form since 2018. He just finished his Sophomore year at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is getting his BA in Economics and is a member of the Texas Student Television Sports department where he is a reporter and crew member of 3 different shows. He has been swimming since he was 2 years old, when his parents signed him up for lessons at the YMCA. His favorite part about Hamlet is the community that is formed every summer, which creates longtime friendships and keeps people coming back for more. He loves coaching Hamlet for many reasons, the biggest of which is the personal satisfaction he gets from seeing swimmers improve both in the water as competitors and out of the water as people. He is looking forward to having another great summer as a part of Hamlet and can't wait to get back on deck again.
Thomas Sites
I have been a part of the NVSL at Holmes Run Acres since I was five years old, and over the 13 years I was there the sport has played a role in who I am today. Growing up through this program taught me discipline and the importance of supporting your teammates both in and out of the water. Swimming has always been more than just a sport to me it’s been a place where I’ve built lasting friendships, learned how to push through challenges, and developed a strong sense of commitment and pride.
At Falls Church High School, I continued to grow as a swimmer and competitor, setting the school record in the 100 backstroke and qualifying for the state championships multiple times. I am now swimming at the University of Mary Washington, where I broke the freshman record in the 100 butterfly and scored at our conference meet.
As an assistant coach, my goal for the team this season is to create an environment where energy, positivity, and teamwork are at the forefront. I want us to be the most spirited team on deck at every meet, supporting one another and bringing enthusiasm to every race. At the same time, I hope to help each swimmer push themselves and their teammates to improve, drop time, and reach their full potential.
Hiring Junior Coaches
Junior Coaches
We are now accepting applications for Junior (and Volunteer) Coaches for the Hamlet Swim Team 2026. Junior (and Volunteer) Coaches will work with Coach Tyler to make Summer Swim a successful, fun, and memorable program for our younger swimmers.
Applicants must be 16 years old to apply for a paid position. Applicants who are 15 years old and in 10th grade with prior experience as swimmers on the Hamlet Swim team may apply for a volunteer position. This is a great way to gain coaching experience and obtain volunteer hours. Junior Coaches who turn 16 over the course of the season can transition from a volunteer to paid position after their birthday.
